Doc Rivers and the L.A Clippers fell to the Detroit Pistons Saturday afternoon after 44 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals from star Blake Griffin. The big man shot 13-of-23 shooting from the field, 5-of-13 from beyond the arc, and 13-of-14 from the free throw line as he led his team to a much-needed victory over his former coach and team.

The trade that sent Griffin to Detroit last year was a tough one for the Clippers, who had just signed him to a five-year deal and sold him on having his jersey retired after playing his entire career in Los Angeles.

According to Rivers, he hasn't even spoken to Griffin since the trade nearly a year ago.

“I haven't spoken to him, but that's happened many times in my career,” said Rivers about his relationship with Griffin. “I don't make a big deal of that. You guys do, but I don't, at all. I've had a lot of guys, even some guys who I'm very close to, most trades and departures don't go very smoothly, for the record – they just don't. I can cite a hundred of them — Kendrick Perkins, you know, was like my son. They don't go well. They all come back eventually.”

Bit of a cold-blooded response from Griffin considering Rivers was the coach for his best years in the NBA, but that's the demeanor Griffin has had for most of his career.
