The LA Clippers have been in the news over the course of this week due to the fact that superstar Kawhi Leonard will miss his second game of the season due to load management. While those that hold an older viewpoint might not understand the health benefits of high-level athletes resting their bodies every once in a while, Clippers Head Coach Doc Rivers does seem to grasp the effectiveness of load management.
While some have been up in arms about Leonard’s rest, Rivers gave people a rather cheeky answer when asked what people who paid to see Kawhi Leonard will see when they watch the Clippers face off against the Bucks on Wednesday night:
When asked what Doc Rivers would say to the fans who bought tickets to Bucks/Clippers with the hopes of seeing Kawhi Leonard play, he replied:
“They can see me.”— Malika Andrews (@malika_andrews) November 7, 2019
Rivers has earned the right to be a focal point on his own, as he won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and has been a coach in the NBA for 21 years.
Beyond that, Rivers played 12 seasons in the league and is one of the most productive players in Atlanta Hawks history. Rivers also made one All-Star team in 1987-88 as the team’s stalwart point guard.
Per recent reporting, Leonard sitting out is not simply a rest issue, as the NBA filed a report showing that the veteran is “not a healthy player” after sitting out upwards of 20 games last season – a season in which his team won the championship.
Despite that fact, people have been up in arms of Leonard resting games. In reality, it’s not that big of a deal – especially if it leads to the promised land for the Clippers come playoff time.
