The L.A. Clippers will hire New York Knicks' executive Mark Hughes to the assistant general manager position, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. Hughes will join a brass comprised of former Cleveland Cavaliers tandem Michael Winger and Trent Redden, who will hold general managers and assistant positions, respectively.
After four seasons as a scout for the Knicks, Hughes became the director of player personnel in 2011, a role he has kept for the last six seasons, spending a decade with the franchise.
The Clippers now have a revamped front office, starting with Jerry West as a consultant early in the offseason, then Doc Rivers renouncing his title as president of the team to narrow his focus on coaching the team, and ultimately these latest acquisitions that will have a much different roster to work with.
L.A. no longer has Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, or Jamal Crawford — three of their top four scoring options from last season, making this a retooling that will take time and patience to put together after several loose pieces were gathered from Paul's trade.
Hughes was an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic and the Sacramento Kings prior to his tenure with the Knicks, giving him a wealth of knowledge within NBA circles, one he'll soon have to put to work to get the franchise on its feet.
