It looks like the L.A. Clippers tried to get more for Blake Griffin.
In a Hoop Collective podcast by ESPN, a panel that included Royce Young and Brian Windhorst, the two reporters discussed the ramifications of the Griffin trade. Young revealed the the Clippers tried to engage the Oklahoma City Thunder and get Paul George in the trade.
The exchange was transcribed in an NBA Reddit thread (via user “urfaselol”):
“They offered him around to everybody,” said Royce Young on The Hoop Collective podcast.
“I don't know if that's true,” replied Brian Windhorst.
“I mean I know they made calls to Oklahoma City for Paul George,” Young said. “I'm pretty sure they made calls to Minnesota for players, so I mean, like, they tried to get some bigger name players. It just wasn't happening.”

This proves that the Clippers did not just take the first deal available to move Griffin or his contract. The franchise did its due diligence and swung for the fences in trying to pry George away from the Thunder.
But the plan did not work. Trades in the NBA work that way sometimes. Teams think about trading a star player, and they want a star player in return. They call around, and often times their overtures are not met kindly.
But fans can't fault the Clippers for trying. For those that think Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley aren't enough for Griffin, the team did try to get bigger names. It just didn't happen.
And perhaps the Clippers will be better of for it, though only time will tell.
