Obviously, this means absolutely nothing in the long run for these two teams with playoff aspirations. However, it is sure to bother some Lakers fans who believe their team should come out the gate as favorites.

Regardless, the matchups between the two superteams will be a spectacle every time they meet. The drama began in the offseason when now Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was rumored to be considering joining Anthony Davis and LeBron James to form a Lakers big three.

In the end, Kawhi chose Los Angeles, but not the purple and gold. And on the way out of Toronto, he orchestrated a move to land Paul George as his teammate.

The move irked Lakers fans for several reasons. Paul George had been linked to the Lakers for years, and the sting of watching him join their city rival hurt. Additionally, Leonard, whether purposefully or not, delayed his free agency decision so there were no real big names on the market by the time he signed. The Lakers were forced to go after second-tier free agents but still put together an impressive roster around their stars.

The Clippers will likely be without George in the season opener, but it will still be a must-see matchup. We'll see if any more L.A. drama occurs.
