NBA superstars are supremely talented basketball players. However, not all of them are easy to get along with. Apparently, a former Los Angeles Clippers ball boy said he was bullied by NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Dave Meltzer is the CEO of Sports 1 Marketing, one of the world's leading marketing agencies for sports and entertainment. However, he was a Los Angeles Clipper ball boy in his youth and managed to see Lakers' Cap up close.
He told Heavy that it was not a pleasant experience meeting the Hall of Famer.
“I was a ball boy for the Clippers when I was twelve years old,”said Meltzer who co-founded his agency with Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon.
“OK first game, it’s the Lakers versus the Clippers. I get to the visiting locker room, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the biggest jerk in the world to me. Really. Boy I really didn’t know what I was doing, it was my first day and I know how intense he is, you know I’m older now, but I was twelve years old, four-foot- six, seventy eight pounds. Yeah I went home crying and wanting to quit. That was my dream job.”
The revelation does put Abdul-Jabbar in a bad light. However, it is not a fresh relevation in the sense that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — by his own admission — did not get along with the press during his playing days. Moody, aloof and defensive, Kareem put up a wall and did not allow reporters to know him in great depth or detail.
Of course, this isn't what many remember him by. He's appeared in TV and film. He's a best-selling author and activist who hasn't shied away from expressing his opinion. He's also been assigned by the government as a cultural ambassador in the past.
More than anything, this nugget of information shows that NBA players are also human.
