While most people know him as a good basketball player who started playing at a young age, there's also something else D'Angelo Russell loves: dogs.
His father, Antonio, recently recalled when his son started having passion for them. D'Angelo saw almost all movies with dogs in it and even had his own when he was still a kid, a blue-eyed pitbull he named Diamond, for more than a year before she got lost and his son first felt losing a loved one.
“He really is crazy about dogs,”
“I just remember him being heartbroken,”
After getting drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015, the first thing that the younger Russell got was a puppy he named Louis. He even hired an experienced puppy guru, Epi Gumatay, for him to learn how to take care of his pet better.
Gumatay shared his experience with Russell on how he is as a pet owner despite his busy schedule especially during the season when he travels a lot.
“Knowing D'Angelo, he's quiet. “I don't know how he is with his teammates. I only see him how he is with dogs. But … when a dog is in the room, he opens up. The power of the animal is incredible. I have so many texts from [Russell]. He has so much on his plate with the team and everything, but he texts his dog trainer.”

Russell also shows his love for Louis by sharing some pictures or videos of him on his Instagram account, where his followers can see how adorable his pet is.

It's certainly nice to see another side of the 6-foot-5 guard as his soft-spot for pets, especially for dogs, is something different from the fierce competitor that he is on the basketball court.
