The preseason games give coaches a chance to gauge how prepared their teams are for the new campaign. It also allows them to experiment on some combinations, and run sets which they could use throughout the year. That was the case on Saturday when the Los Angeles Lakers debuted against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as Luke Walton watched his players closely, including highly-touted rookie Lonzo Ball.
Although Ball finished with five points, seven rebounds and eight assists, the second year head coach still made it known, via Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times, that he wants him to be more aggressive, as he knows it will benefit the Lakers more.
Luke says they want Lonzo to be a little more aggressive and take some of the shots he's passing up in an effort to be unselfish.

The former UCLA star received the most playing time on the night with 36 total minutes. He is expected to be the Lakers' starter at the point guard spot, and it will be very important for him to immerse quickly with the NBA's style of play. The game versus the Wolves had him go up against one of the better playmakers in the league today in Jeff Teague. He did not disappoint, as he showcased his all-around game, and did a decent job in defending the former All-Star as well.
If Lonzo Ball can build on his solid showing in their first preseason game, it could do wonders for him moving forward. His confidence could also be boosted, which will only make him a better player, and prove to all his doubters that he belongs in the league.
