Anthony Davis feels his Los Angeles Lakers “gave away” a 111-106 win to their bitter rival Los Angeles Clippers, as the latter overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to walk away with a 2-0 series lead and Christmas Day bragging rights.

“We were in the penalty with eight minutes left in the fourth and we weren't attacking, we shot a lot of jump shots,” said Davis after the Lakers' fourth straight loss of the 2019-20 season. “They wanted it more. We had a lot of mistakes toward the end of the game. Mental mistakes at both ends of the floor. We fouled a lot in the fourth quarter, put them on the line — really in the second half — they made shots and got some stops.

“We gave that one away.”

The Clippers were able to clamp down on defense during the fourth quarter and force the Lakers to become a jump-shooting team. While LeBron James was able to make them pay in the early stretch of the final period, the misses wouldn't take long to come, and the Clippers capitalized with smart offense and cashed in from the foul line — which allowed them to turn the tide of momentum.

While James was battling a groin injury and not nearly as aggressive driving the ball as he tends to be, Davis was guilty of the same, without any injury excuse to warrant it.

The Lakers have now lost the season opener against the Clippers and a Christmas Day matchup, but have two more to play this season to salvage a potential tiebreaker and some bragging rights.
