Los Angeles Lakers swingman Corey Brewer was held out of Thursday night's 93-81 win over the short-handed San Antonio Spurs due to a coaches decision from head coach Luke Walton. As a result, the former Florida Gators stand-out saw his NBA-best streak of 317 consecutive games played come to an end.

As most hoops fans know, three-time champion A.C. Green holds the NBA's record for most consecutive games played. “The Ironman,” as he came to be known, played 1,192 consecutive games over the course of his 14 and a half seasons (1986-2001), averaging 9.6 points on 49 percent shooting from the field, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per outing.
Coach Walton, now in his second season at the helm of the Lakers, received quite a bit of back-lash on social media for his decision to sit Brewer on Thursday night.
Luke Walton could’ve and should’ve played Corey Brewer last night. He ended the streak!

In his 40 games played for the Lakers this season, Brewer, now 31 years of age, has turned in averages of 3.5 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field (21.9 percent from beyond the arc) and 1.4 rebounds.
Brewer's streak coming to an end is certainly a downer, but catching Green's record would be a tall order for any player. Maybe Brewer will be able to focus on starting again — maybe not.
The Lakers, now 14-27 overall and winners of three straight, will be back in action on Saturday night, as they're scheduled for a match-up in Dallas against the Mavericks. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. EST inside American Airlines Arena with Spectrum SportsNet and Fox Sports Southwest having live broadcast coverage.
