The rest of the world may have moved on from the stunning Luka Doncic trade that brought him to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, but legions of Dallas Mavericks fans certainly have not. On Tuesday, the same Mavs got news they had been hoping to hear for several months, as Dallas reportedly is firing general manager Nico Harrison, the man widely believed to be the chief engineer of the Doncic trade.
Adding to the buzz of Harrison's firing was a throwback video being shared on social media, which shows Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka thanking the Mavs and Harrison during Doncic's Los Angeles introductory press conference back in February.

The video is a timely one to reminisce about, given the reports of Harrison's firing.
As a refresher, the Mavericks shocked the entire basketball universe just before the 2025 NBA trade deadline by sending the Slovenian superstar guard to the Lakers along with Maxi Klenber and Markieff Morris in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a future first-rounder in 2029. The Utah Jazz were the third team involved in the deal, and they got Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-rounder from the Lakers.
The Lakers are clearly not having any regrets about that trade, especially given how Doncic is performing so far in the 2025-26 NBA season. The former scoring champion just dropped 38 points in a win on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets on the road. As for this writing, Doncic is averaging 37.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game while shooting 49.1 percent from the floor.
Meanwhile, Davis, the central piece of the trade package the Mavs got from parting ways with Doncic, has missed six games in a row with a calf injury.
While the Lakers are 8-3 through 11 games, the Mavs are languishing near the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 3-8 slate.
