Los Angeles Lakers star big man Anthony Davis suffered an eye injury on Saturday in a scrimmage game against the Orlando Magic. While the injury does not appear to be anything too serious, Davis might miss Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and perhaps more than that.

Reporting from inside the Disney World bubble, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski provided an update on Davis' eye issue and how this might affect the Lakers moving forward:

“[Lakers head coach] Frank Vogel has said hat Anthony Davis' status is unclear for the Lakers' opener,” said Woj. “Here's the thing for the Lakers: seeding in this playoff tournament takes on a lot less significance because there is no home-court advantage. So there's no reason for the Lakers to have to push Anthony Davis out on the court unless he's one hundred percent. And remember too, individually, the All-NBA voting, the MVP voting — all of that is finished. There's no motivation for players either to go out to try and pad stats here in the last eight games. The Lakers are going to be very conservative with Anthony Davis.”

Those are some excellent points, as always, from Woj, who appears to be implying that Davis might miss a game or two with this eye injury. Simply put, there's just no reason for the Lakers to allow their prized big man to take the floor and run the risk of him either aggravating the eye problem or sustaining a new injury — unless completely necessary. As it appears, this does not seem to be the case.

The Lakers have a 5.5-game lead on the Clippers, so they have a hefty cushion for that top seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers would have to really fall apart to fall out of the No. 1 spot, and even if they somehow did, what really matters is full health for the playoffs.
