Kobe Bryant's list of awards continues to grow despite the fact that he is no longer in the NBA. The former Los Angeles Lakers great has earned a Sports Emmy for his ‘Dear Basketball' poem, according to a report from USA TODAY Sports.

‘Dear Basketball' is narrated by Bryant himself. It's based on a poem he wrote that was published in The Players' Tribune in 2015 when he announced his retirement. The poem also earned Bryant an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film at the Academy Awards in March.

“As basketball players, we're really supposed to shut up and dribble,” Bryant said on stage as he accepted the Oscar. “I'm glad we do a little bit more than that.”

Backstage, he said, “I feel better than winning a championship. … It's crazy.”

“The Black Mamba” established himself as one of the greatest basketball players to ever grace the hardwood. The five-time champion played in 1,346 games over the course of his career, averaging 25.0 points on 44.7 percent shooting from the field (32.9 percent from beyond the arc), 5.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.4 steals in 36.1 minutes per game.

Kobe — an 18-time All Star and four-time MVP — was one of the most prolific scorers the NBA has ever known. In fact, his 33,643 career points rank 3rd on the all-time list, just behind the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) and Karl Malone (36,928). For the record, Michael Jordan — a player Bryant greatly respects — is 4th on the all-time scoring list with 32,292 points scored.

Though Kobe is no longer playing the NBA, his legacy will live on through his words and statistics. Join us in congratulating him for winning this prestigious award.
