The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly received permission from the Golden State Warriors to talk to assistant coach Ron Adams about a role on head coach Frank Vogel's staff, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
Adams is widely regarded as the best defensive assistant guru in the NBA. He previously worked with Tom Thibodeau on the Chicago Bulls and has been with the Warriors since 2014.
Reporting w/ @wojespn: The Lakers received permission from Golden State to talk to assistant Ron Adams about a role on Frank Vogel's staff, league sources tell ESPN. It’s unclear Adams' level of interest but Lakers could make case more compelling with significant financial offer.

This would be a tremendous hire for the Lakers if they are able to get Adams. Los Angeles had one of the worst defenses in the NBA in 2018-19. With Anthony Davis in the fold next to LeBron James, the Lakers have the pieces to be a good defensive team in 2019-20, although they need to fill out the rest of their roster once free agency starts.
The Bulls haven't recovered defensively since parting ways with Adams. The Warriors are hoping Adams decides to stay in Golden State, but like ESPN notes, the Lakers could come with a big money offer.
The Lakers hired Vogel after firing Luke Walton. Los Angeles also added Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd and former Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets head coach Lionel Hollins to Vogel's staff.
