LaVar Ball is back in the United States, presumably for All-Star weekend which is taking place in Los Angeles, and once again he is talking about his son, Lonzo Ball and the Lakers.
In an exclusive interview with TMZ, LaVar was asked about all three sons playing on the same team:
“Man who don't want their sons to all play on the same team. Tell me a father wh don't want their sons to play on the same team.”
When asked if he was afraid of Magic Johnson, the former legendary Los Angeles Lakers point guard, he tried to shy away from the question but ultimately said,
“I ain't never afraid of nothing, I'm a big baller. I ain't got nothing to be afraid of.”
When asked if Lonzo would be Rookie of the Year, he said yes, and when asked how he would grade his son's performance so far this season, he gave him an A.
Article Continues BelowThere has been much speculation around the NBA, if LaVar's tactics are already becoming too much, and if it will ultimately cost Lonzo a chance at another contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Usually, the off the court distractions are accepted, if the play on the court is strong enough, but LaVar could be taking his son right out of Los Angeles.
Lonzo has had a strong start to the season but after an injury, is not in the running for the Rookie of the Year award. He is currently averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game. He lived up to being a triple-double candidate every night but his shooting has been below par so far this season.
Magic Johnson and the front office already had a meeting with LaVar asking him to tone down on the criticism of the Lakers organization but it's pretty clear he will do whatever he wants, and he doesn't care who tells him he can't.
