The Los Angeles Lakers made a head-scratching move by acquiring Rajon Rondo shortly after landing LeBron James on a four-year, $154 million agreement, but it hasn't seemed to faze the Ball family, despite rumors of open competition between the two for the starting point guard spot.
While reports indicated Lonzo Ball would have to compete against Rondo to make the starting five, his father LaVar isn't as preoccupied with the potential that his son rides the bench for part of the season.
“That don’t mean nothing,” LaVar Ball said during a CNN interview. “Just got another teammate. Another teammate, that’s all. A little backup, that’s good. I never worry about competition because I know my boys are better than that.”

Rondo is an experienced floor general with an assist title to his name and a reputation for being one of the most cerebral players in the game.
The 6-foot-1 point guard hinted at following James regardless of where he'd wind up, and he did so after agreeing to a one-year, $9 million deal with the team.
Rondo is exactly the type of player with high basketball IQ that James had wanted for so long, and assuming Ball is ready to go by training camp after suffering a meniscus injury, he should have a real run for his money against a veteran that has proven to be valuable at both ends of the floor.
Whatever anyone thinks of these supposed problems, the Lakers are having their best offseason in years.
