James has been at the forefront of social justice awareness in recent years, with today's confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson being a step in a very positive and promising direction for aspiring Black politicians and those eyeing careers in the justice system.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama also showed her support for Jackson, releasing a statement that said “I was so moved to see Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmed this afternoon. Like so many of you, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride—a sense of joy—to know that this deserving, accomplished Black woman will help chart our nation’s course.”
This is the second time in as many years that a prominent Black woman has been elevated to a position of power within the framework of the US government. Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to hold that title, was the presiding party over the 53-47 vote to confirm Jackson on Thursday. Vice President Harris would take to Twitter to lend the newest member of the US Supreme Court some additional praise.
