As Lonzo Ball prepares for his much awaited return to action on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, he understands that there's a lot of work to be done in order for him to regain his old form. That said, he is looking to get all the help that he needs to get himself up to speed again.

It has been reported that he even sent a text message to his new teammate, Isaiah Thomas, to work out with him in the gym recently, according to ClutchPoints' own Ryan Ward.

The Los Angeles Lakers rookie has missed the team's last 15 games as he suffered a knee injury that has kept him on the shelf. Missing that much time could make him lose his rhythm, but knowing that he will now have a lot of help at the point guard spot with Thomas in their fold, it will lessen the pressure on his young shoulders to play heavy minutes immediately and risk getting hurt again.

In the 36 games he's appeared in so far, Ball is averaging solid numbers of 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.9 minutes. He has been able to showcase his prowess on both ends of the floor and has proven to the Los Angeles faithful that he can live up to the hype that surrounded him even before he entered the NBA.

It will be worth monitoring how Thomas' addition will affect the game and playing time of Ball. With both of them being natural point guards, head coach Luke Walton could divide the minutes at the one spot between them, unless they can show that they can co-exist well on the court, which gives them a chance to share the backcourt together for the Purple and Gold. For now, it remains to be seen if that will happen or not, but the first order of business for Ball is to make a successful return first.
