The Los Angeles Lakers were presented with their 2020 championship rings on Tuesday night, as they kicked off their season against their cross-town rivals in the Los Angeles Clippers. We've gotten our hands at a detailed feature of the ring's design, and unsurprisingly, it has a couple of odes to the late, great Kobe Bryant.
Here's a closer look at the one-of-a-king piece of jewelry that has some insane details on it (h/t TMZ Sports):
As seen in the video above, there is an image of a snake etched behind each player's jersey number, which honors Kobe's Black Mamba moniker. The ring featured above belongs to LeBron James, which also features a personalized quote from The King himself — “Leave a Legacy” — which is actually in LeBron's own handwriting.
Article Continues BelowThe ring also has a detachable top, which reveals all the jerseys the franchise has retired. Kobe's two jerseys — No. 8 and No. 24 — are both featured as part of the esteemed list, and it is worth noting that it is only Bryant's jerseys that are highlighted in a darker shade.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, their momentous evening was spoiled by the Clippers, who emerged with a 116-109 win in Staples Center. It was LeBron who top-scored for the Lakers, who finished with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting, with five rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes of action.
It wasn't exactly the ending the Lakers were hoping for in what was an historic occasion for them, but we're pretty sure that Kobe himself was smiling down from the heavens.
Rest in power, Mamba.
