Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic usually gets the better of whatever opposing defenses throw at him. The Los Angeles Lakers, however, got him uncharacteristically flustered on a brilliant defensive sequence.

In the first half of the Mavs' hosting of the Lakers at American Airlines Center on Saturday, Doncic found himself trapped by a double team from Wesley Matthews and Marc Gasol. The Slovenian playmaker thought he can get out of the bind by throwing a fancy pass, which backfired big time.

Lakers forward Markieff Morris came swooping in to deflect Doncic's pass and turned it to two easy fastbreak points on the other end. Here's Luka's costly turnover right before halftime:

To be fair, it seems Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has devised a plan to put pressure on Doncic all game long. The two-time All-Star was once again forced to another turnover after colliding to the LA wall of defenders Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond in the corner.

Doncic even asked for a foul on the play but was not bailed out by the refs.

Luka Doncic did torch the Lakers for 30 points, nine rebounds, and eight dimes in their previous outing. Looks like the Purple and Gold roster is clamping him down early in their rematch.

With the Mavs' other All-Star Kristaps Porzingis sitting this one out, the Lakers do have the luxury of focusing their stifling defense on Doncic.
