The Los Angeles Lakers went through some drastic changes during the NBA offseason which have propelled the storied franchise back into the spotlight. Along with adding arguably the best player in the game in LeBron James, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka were able to bring in some savvy veterans to help the team's promising young players take it to another level in their development.

With head coach Luke Walton going with a lot of young players in the starting lineup last year, one of the many hot topics of discussion in Los Angeles has been who will be his five for the season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers. Although it will be a question frequently asked between now and Oct. 18, Walton is not focused on finding starters leading up to the first game of the season.

“We're a team. Whoever is playing well, whoever is helping the team win is going to be playing. Whether that's to start games, finish games. I'm not looking to find a starting five by game one and keep it the rest of the year.

“We're starting over again. We got to a lot of new guys, and a lot of it is feeling each other out. Getting to know each other and see who plays well together, so I'm not desperate to find a set rotation right now.”

Perhaps the one position that has created the most buzz regarding who'll be the starter is at point guard. Then-rookie Lonzo Ball got the nod last year starting 50 of the 52 games he played in his first season with the team. This year the team has brought in Rajon Rondo to act as a mentor for Ball, but he is also more than capable of starting at floor general right out of the gate next month.

At this point, LeBron James is the only player on the team with a guarantee to be in the starting lineup come Oct. 18. The four other spots are up for grabs with an interesting stage being set for the preseason which gets underway on Sun. Sept. 30 against the Denver Nuggets.
