The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as a landing spot for Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving amid the Kevin Durant trade discussions. However, a Lakers trade for Irving isn't exactly an easy one to facilitate. The Lakers aren't armed with a bevy of trade assets available to ship out for the Nets star, with Russell Westbrook representing the most obvious choice.

But the talks have stalled a bit, as the Lakers and Nets figure out a way to make the money work in a potential deal. That doesn't mean that LA has stopped looking for ways to better their team. Per the latest Lakers rumors, the team is looking at trades for two other players with the Irving situation in limbo, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and RealGM on Twitter.

“They've looked at other deals,” said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN. “They've continued to, I know, check on Eric Gordon in Houston. That's certainly a player that interests them. Buddy Hield in Indiana. Different kinds of guards. Shooting guards, certainly, both of those players former Rob Pelinka clients.”

Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers have looked at trades for Indiana Pacers guard Buddy Hield and Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon. Both players, as Woj noted, are former clients of Lakers general manager and ex-agent Rob Pelinka.

The interest in Hield is ironic, considering that the Lakers nearly acquired him last offseason before executing the Westbrook deal. Neither Hield nor Gordon is in Irving's stratosphere.

But both would provide excellent shooting and floor-spacing around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It remains to be seen what happens with Irving.

In the meantime, the Lakers are going to keep exploring how they can get better after a disastrous season.
