The Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes is starting to get serious. With Leonard wanting out of San Antonio and the Spurs organization via a trade, it would not be a surprise to hear teams lining outside of their doorstep with their own trade proposal. Leonard is reportedly eyeing to be dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers, but in such a trade, Adrian Wojnarowksi believes that point guard Lonzo Ball would not be involved.
Indiana had little interest in Paul George trade w/ Lakers — and that'll be case for Spurs too. Boston gives Spurs best building blocks of assets — one of young forwards (likely Jaylen Brown), its own 18 pick/19 protected Kings pick, etc. Lonzo to Spurs? Don't hold your breath.

Nothing is set in stone right now, as Leonard remains a Spur as of this writing, but most signs point to him getting shipped soon. Despite a meeting with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich in New York in an attempt to sort out their differences, Leonard appears to be adamant of taking his talents somewhere else beginning next season, possibly with the Lakers.
Article Continues BelowWhile Los Angeles looks to be the favorite to acquire Leonard, it will not come at the cost of the Lakers giving Lonzo Ball away, however. If that’s the case, then the Lakers will have to dip their hands into their other assets to convince San Antonio to send Kawhi Leonard to La La Land.
As implied also by Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics could be the frontrunners to lock up a trade with the Spurs, considering their tasty collection of assets. Boston general manager Danny Ainge could entice San Antonio with a package that can include future draft picks or the likes of Terry Rozier, Semi Ojeleye, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum.
Leonard has one more year left on his current contract before a player option kicks in in 2019.
