When Lonzo Ball was drafted with the second pick of the 2017 NBA Draft, he wasn't exactly needed to score. Although it was clear that Ball could put the ball on the floor occasionally and make a few offensive plays, the Los Angeles Lakers considered his court vision and passing to be what the organization needed moving forward.
Hence, after Ball was drafted, he was immediately tossed into the starting lineup. Initially, many fans and media personnel hounded Ball for his offensive deficiencies. At this point of the season, Ball shot horribly and couldn't even finish well enough to be considered an average point guard in that regard.
To his credit, it takes years for a player's potential to truly emerge. That is evidenced by the career starts of notable late bloomers such as Victor Oladipo, CJ McCollum, and Hassan Whiteside — even going back to as far as the great Steve Nash.
After returning from a variety of pesky injuries, Ball appears to be thriving in his role with the Lakers now. In Saturday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs, Ball uncharacteristically hit two clutch 3-pointers to lead his team to the win.

Ball isn't known to shoot 3-pointers efficiently at all, especially in close games. The Lakers obviously came into the game as a clear underdog. After all, the Lakers are one of the worst teams in the NBA, and the Spurs are a postseason contender.
This moment shows that Ball does have some potential on the offensive end. It could actually give him the courage that he needs to become a reliable offensive player moving forward for his team.
