The Los Angeles Lakers after weeks of building anticipation got the player they wanted at the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft on Thursday in former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball.

Since the selection, the team has raved about what the 19-year-old could potentially bring to the table in Los Angeles. Lakers head coach Luke Walton also holds the belief that Ball could help transform the organization's fortunes through his passing ability.

In his lone season at UCLA, Ball showcased just that ability turning the school into the best offense in the nation that averaged 90.4 points per game. He accomplished that while he led the country with 7.7 assists per contest including setting the school single-season record with 274 assists.

Los Angeles is banking on the selfless nature of Ball's game to help lift them out of the rut that the organization has been in for the last four years losing seasons, which marks the longest playoff drought in franchise history.

Ball will have the opportunity to come in and start from the get-go with the trade of D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets that will give him the reigns to the team's uptempo offense. His ability to effectively run a fast-paced offense both in college and high school could bode well in his transition to the NBA as the Lakers' primary ball handler and distributor on the floor.
