Four-time All-Star Spencer Haywood is one of the characters who is portrayed in the new HBO documentary called “Winning Time”, which is based on the start of the Los Angeles Lakers' dynasty. He spent a lone NBA season with the franchise in 1979-1980 and in the most recent episode of the show, there was an absolutely wild scene where his teammates joked about Haywood literally giving himself a circumcision as a kid.

Well, the legend confirmed that is 100% true. Via TMZ Sports:

“Yeah, but let me explain it to you,” Spencer Haywood said. “In this small town in Silver City in Mississippi, it ain't no silver and it ain't no city. It's population of like 370 people and you had no doctors, you had no anything, so my mother was doing it in a biblical standpoint that you gotta be circumcised.”

“We did it to the hogs so why not do it to the humans? It's country!! It's country-folk!!”

Yikes. Spencer Haywood even revealed that his brothers helped him with the procedure. We can't even imagine how painful it must've been. But, hey you do what you have to.

Haywood spent most of his NBA career with the Seattle Supersonics and New York Knicks before eventually coming to LA. He only averaged 9.7 points ad 4.6 rebounds with the team and ultimately finished up his time in the league with the Washington Bullets.
