Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis views Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose as a “legend.”
Both Davis and Rose grew up in Chicago. Davis says Rose was one of the first celebrity guys he watched play basketball in Chicago.
“I mean, I watched him growing up. One of the first celebrity guys I’ve seen playing basketball,” Davis told Brandon ‘Scoop B' Robinson of Heavy. “Went to a couple of games at Simeon. He’s definitely a legend in my eyes and I’m excited for him because he’s getting back to his old ways.”
Derrick Rose is a Chicago legend. He won two state championships at Simeon in high school and was drafted No. 1 overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Rose won Rookie of the Year with the Bulls in 2009 and became the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011.

Now on the Pistons, Rose is coming off a productive 2018-19 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The former MVP averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc and 85.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Anthony Davis, meanwhile, is embarking on his first season with the Lakers. He will try and lead the Lakers to a championship with LeBron James.
Rose and Davis will square off two times next season, once in Detroit and the other time in Los Angeles. The Pistons will try and build off their 2018-19 campaign.
They made the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
