Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson scored 52 points Monday night against the Chicago Bulls while hitting an NBA record 14 3-pointers. Thompson will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019 and he is widely expected to re-sign with the Warriors.

However, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has been pushing this narrative since LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers that Thompson would be the perfect sidekick to The King. Thompson is arguably one of the best shooters in NBA history, a trait players often need when playing next to James because he’s a great passer and collapses the paint on his drives to the basket. Thompson can also guard multiple positions effectively and doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be a threat. He does most of his damage on catch-and-shoot shots and is an excellent off-ball player.

So, while discussing Klay Thompson's epic performance on Tuesday's edition of First Take, Stephen A. Smith once again brought up Thompson and the Lakers.

Stephen A. Smith isn't wrong. Klay Thompson would be the perfect partner in crime with LeBron James on the Lakers. One of the main reasons James was so successful with Cleveland Cavaliers sharpshooter Kyle Korver was James could drive on the side Korver was on because he knew Korver’s defender wouldn’t leave the sniper open for 3, thus creating an easier driving lane to the basket.

Just imagine the driving lanes James would have if Thompson was his teammate. It's something Laker fans have been thinking about. Of course, things can always change quickly in the NBA and the Lakers will have plenty of money to offer Thompson. But at this point, Laker fans shouldn’t be getting their hopes up about adding Thompson to the roster next offseason.
