Lonzo Ball may have just broken LeBron James’ record of being the youngest player to record a triple-double in NBA history, but there’s also a chance it won’t be hold up for a long time. With Dennis Smith Jr. playing well this season for the Dallas Mavericks, he still has time to beat the Los Angeles Lakers point guard and own that distinction.

With 28 days to go before hitting 20 years and 15 days, the Mavericks rookie standout will have ample time to notch a triple-double of his own and rewrite the history books in the process. Dallas will play nine games during that stretch, which gives him a good chance of earning it.

Through the first 11 games of the season for the Mavs, Smith has proven that he can score, rebound and pass the ball well, with his averages of 14.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. It will all boil down to taking his game to an even higher level and put in more effort in order to make history. There is no doubt that he has the talent to do it, and playing time is also not an issue as he spends 28.5 minutes on the floor, which could go higher depending on his performance during a game.

It remains to be seen if the former NC State star will be able to do it or not. However, one thing certain is his team’s fans will all be rooting for him, as reaching it could do wonders, and bring out the best basketball from Smith, which will benefit Mavs moving forward.
