In the last few seasons, Hassan Whiteside has emerged as one of the rising stars in the league as a member of the Miami Heat.

Following the most productive season of his brief NBA career, Whiteside told the Sun Sentinel that he's hoping to expand on his offensive game by adding the use of the 3-point shot.

“I might shoot a three every once and while,” Whiteside said, speaking at Sunday’s Dew NBA 3X event at Bayfront Park. But I'm still more about getting in the paint. Just shooting jumpers, face up post game.”

“I don't really want to be like a big-time perimeter guy,” Whiteside said. “I just want to shoot enough to where you've actually got to guard it. Even threes, I can shoot threes. But I don't want to be one of those centers that shoot five or six threes and then you're not even dominating in the paint anymore.”

Through his first five seasons, Whiteside has yet to take a single three-pointer. This would be a dramatic shift in his individual game that up to this point has had a heavy reliance on pick-and-roll action and working on the low block.

The 27-year-old is hoping that addition of the 3-point shot will help make opponents respect his shooting ability from outside the paint. In fact, the inclusion of this shot could help open up various avenues for his offensive role and involvement on the court throughout the game.

Other big men such as DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and Al Horford have each incorporated the 3-point shot in their game wonderfully. With the current playing style in the modern NBA, adopting the usage of that particular is a much more welcomed skill-set for power forwards and centers in the league.

With an entire offseason to work on adding an outside shot to his game, it will be interesting to see how much of that he implements into his repertoire next season.
