Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra not only met with Jimmy Butler several times during the summer, but he also spoke with Dwyane Wade to get a better feel for the four-time All-Star.

Wade and Butler are very close friends off the court. They played one season together on the Chicago Bulls and talk all the time.

Eager to have the best relationship with Butler, Spoelstra is doing whatever he can to get to know the new star in South Beach and find out what he likes and dislikes on the basketball court.

The Spoelstra-Butler relationship is off to a strong start. After Butler was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers in July, they met several times during the summer for dinner. They spoke on the phone at least once a week. Spoelstra even reached out to former Heat guard Dwyane Wade to get the skinny on Butler. Wade and Butler are close friends, playing at the same college and one year together with the Chicago Bulls.

Jimmy Butler had issues with Fred Hoiberg on the Bulls and didn’t get along with certain teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Simply put, he's a difficult guy to get along with.

However, it appears Butler's hard-nosed personality fits right in with Erik Spoelstra and Heat president Pat Riley.

Butler averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists last season with the Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers while shooting 46.2 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line. He's one of the best two-way players in the NBA and will try and lead the Heat back to the playoffs this season.
