Hassan Whiteside posted a farewell message to the Miami Heat and their fans after his stint in South Beach came to a close.
Whiteside was sent to the Portland Trail Blazers in the deal that sent superstar guard Jimmy Butler to Miami.
After seeing his five-year run in Miami ends, the towering center took to Instagram to thank the Heat organization for giving him an opportunity to showcase his skills.
“Big thanks to City of Miami and the amazing fans for making this stop in my Journey worthwhile,” Whiteside wrote. “Lastly to my teammates, I cannot thank you all enough. It’s been a great run and I wish everyone that suited up with me in a Miami Heat uniform the best of luck in your careers and in life.”

Three seasons ago, Whiteside was considered as the new cornerstone of the Heat franchise after signing a lucrative deal with the team. In the 2016-17 season, he proved why he deserved the four-year, $98.42 million contract he received from Miami, as he averaged 17.0 points, 14.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 77 games.
However, his production went on a downward trajectory in the last two seasons, as he saw his minutes dwindled.
In 72 games last season, he averaged 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in just 23.3 minutes per game, as he split the center spot minutes with 21-year-old Bam Adebayo.
