Miami Heat swingman Derrick Jones Jr. left the rim crying for mercy after throwing down an alley-oop slam in Tuesday night's preseason matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
Trailing by one point in the early stages of the second quarter, Jones and his teammates initiated an offensive set from their end of the floor. Jones positioned himself near the top of the key, hinting that he might be coming to set a pick for his point guard. However, the former UNLV standout slipped the screen, then bolted towards the hoop for an alley-oop dunk.
Jones threw it down with ferocity. All of his weight came down on the rim from the two-handed jam. As a result, the rim, which is designed to give way under heavy loads, got stuck in a downward position. Not to worry, though, as Spurs big man Jakob Poeltl solved the issue with a simple jump and bump:

The Heat went on to win Tuesday's game against the Spurs in convincing fashion, 107-89. Jones logged 27 minutes, scoring 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field (0-for-2 from beyond the arc), four rebounds and one steal. He also finished with a true plus/minus score of +28.
Miami will be back for more preseason action on Wednesday night, when they'll travel to Charlotte for a matchup against the Hornets. Tip-off inside the Spectrum Center is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
