Christmas Day has become one of the NBA's featured days. The league plans every year to schedule compelling matchups on that day full of the best teams and players.

That used to mean the Miami Heat. Since 2008, the Heat have played on Christmas every single year. That streak is coming to an end this season.

According to the preliminary 2016-17 NBA schedule being circulated among teams and broadcast partners, one that still is subject to change before the final release next week, the Heat will have Dec. 25 off amid their rebuild that has included the loss of guard Dwyane Wade to the Chicago Bulls in free agency.

In addition to the lack of a Christmas game, the Sun Sentinel has confirmed that Wade and the Chicago Bulls will make only one visit this coming season to AmericanAirlines Arena, on Nov. 10.

The Heat may be in rebuilding mode more than ever this season. The departure of Wade cements them as a team that is no longer a no-brainer to be featured on Christmas.

The only Christmas Day game we know of for sure is the Cleveland Cavaliers hosting the Golden State Warriors for an NBA Finals rematch. The Warriors hosted and beat the Cavs, 89-83, in the 2015 Christmas Day game.

Heat fans are entering a new era with their franchise. Part of that means getting to spend more time with their families on Christmas since their team won't be on TV.
