Giannis Antetokounmpo was not going to let Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns extend the 2021 NBA Finals to a Game 7, and he made sure of that by dropping one of the best performances in NBA Playoffs history. Unfortunately for Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, he was not at Fiserv Forum to witness Giannis tow the Milwaukee Bucks to a 105-98 win Tuesday night.

Moreover, Russell was not able to personally hand the trophy named after him to Giannis Antetokounmpo. Instead, the basketball great took to Twitter to offer his apologies for not attending Game 6 of the series — because of COVID-19 reasons — and to congratulate the Greek Freak.

Although Russell couldn’t bring himself to attend a game in the series, at least the Bucks saw other greats in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson watch Milwaukee live in Game 4, which Giannis and his crew won.

Antetokounmpo was simply unstoppable in Game 6. He scored 50 points  — one point for every year the Bucks fan had to wait before the team followed up on their 1971 championship — in Game 6, making 16 of 25 shots from the field and 17 of 19 from the free-throw line.

With Giannis Antetokounmpo finally an NBA champion, he just needs 10 more to match Bill Russell’s 11 rings.
