The Milwaukee Bucks can offer MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo the supermax extension next offseason, which would keep The Greek Freak in Milwaukee for the long-haul.
The Bucks had the best record in the NBA last season. Antetokounmpo won the MVP award, but Milwaukee fell short of its goal, losing to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals in six games.
There are multiple people around the NBA who believe the clock is ticking on the Bucks to keep Antetokounmpo after everything that happened with Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans. One NBA executive wonders if Giannis will leave the Bucks if the franchise doesn't “win soon.”
“But…if they don’t win soon, does Giannis stay there? I’m not saying win a title, but get to the Finals at least,” the league exec told Keith Smith of Real GM. “Look, I’ve been through this with one of my guys. It sucks. You hear it, read it and have to deal with it for years. And you know your guy hears it too. You just hope it doesn’t get too much in his head.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo will make $25,842,697 next season. If he doesn't sign the supermax extension with the Bucks next summer, he would become an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
Antetokounmpo has said multiple times he doesn't like big market cities and loves playing in Milwaukee. Bucks fans are hoping their MVP stays in town for the rest of his NBA career.
