Karl-Anthony Towns had fans debating recently on what he really meant when he made a comment on a teammate’s Instagram post.
With Zach LaVine inside Oracle Arena for Game 5 of the NBA Finals, he witnessed the Golden State Warriors clinch their second championship in three years. He then posted a photo of the confetti falling from the rafters of the arena, and captioned that it could be the best feeling ever.

After seeing it, Towns made the comment “#comingsoon,” which confused some with what he really meant by it. He then clarified, via Alysa Tsuji of USA Today Sports, that he wants LaVine to know that their time will come, and that a winning a championship is within reach for their young team in the future.
“Yeah, we’re coming soon. The Timberwolves are not a team to just forget about. We’re gonna jump in that hunt sooner than later. I don’t wanna hear people say they never knew we were an NBA team. They knew us from the get.”
Towns is coming off another impressive season and has produced even better numbers in his second year as a pro. He averaged 25.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, and has given the Minnesota faithful a lot of reason to be optimistic about their team’s chances of becoming a perennial playoff contender.
Together with LaVine, the Wolves also have other promising young players like Andrew Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng, and Ricky Rubio, just to name a few. With Tom Thibodeau calling the plays from the sidelines, the team has more than enough weapon to become better in the next few years.
Towns knows it, and believes that it’s only a matter of time before they can reach what the Dubs have achieved the past three seasons.
