If there's one thing consistent surrounding Ricky Rubio the past couple of seasons, it's his being part of trade rumors. Just this season, despite many thinking that Kris Dunn would eat into his playing time, the Timberwolves‘ veteran floor leader has established himself even more as their undisputed starter at the point guard spot.
Speaking to Alex Gonzalbo of Ara.cat, the 26-year-old Spanish international talked about wanting to increase his role further with the Wolves. He also mentioned that he is hoping his opinion will matter more moving forward, as he knows it can positively affect the team.
“Yes, I would like to my opinion to have more weight on things that affect the team. And I think that is linked to the performance on the court. My second leg of the season gives me more power.
“I feel I have the role of the leader off the court and experience helps me to know how to do it. Since childhood, I liked to lead the team. Both on and off the court. I’m not a man of many words, I don’t like to talk much. I prefer deeds, sacrifices and showing that what matters is the team.”
Rubio is hoping his comments will reach the Timberwolves' top brass led by his head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau. Although others may think that he should just stick to running the plays, he may feel that he has more to share for his teammates, especially being one of the veterans now. It could also help his game, knowing he is given more importance by the organization, which could translate to better performances on the court.
