Minnesota Timberwolves starting small forward Andrew Wiggins has refuted a report that he asked for and received money to play for the Canadian National team.

Andrew Wiggins played in the 2015 FIBA Americas. The swingman called Canada’s semifinal loss to Venezuela the “worst loss” of his career at the time. He hasn’t played for the Canadians since.

Andrew Wiggins signed a five-year deal worth in excess of $146 million with the Timberwolves in the summer of 2017. Putting your body on the line for your national team is no small joke, and if you get hurt (i.e Paul George), you risk the possibility of losing game checks from your NBA team.

However, it seems from Wiggins' tweet that the National team is something very dear to him. It's a bold accusation to accuse someone of asking for money when they really didn't. It will be interesting to see what reports come out after this.

On the season, Andrew Wiggins is averaging 15.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He's shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves are 2-3 on the young season and still dealing with the Jimmy Butler trade saga. Minnesota hosts the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.
