After finishing with the third-worst record in the 2019-20 season, the Minnesota Timberwolves drew the luck of the lottery when they landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. This could possibly work for them if they play their cards right. It's hard to fault Minnesota for considering every possible scenario with this pick.

This year's draft class doesn't have a clear-cut No. 1 pick, unlike in previous years. Players such as LaMelo Ball, James Wiseman, and Anthony Edwards are among the top prospects. But there are dark-horse candidates who could emerge as the eventual best player in this class. This has only made Minnesota's job even more difficult and is probably one of the reasons why a trade is being considered.

Minnesota could ideally select Edwards, an athletic shooting guard who fits in alongside incumbent stars Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell. Meanwhile, the Wiseman and Ball fits would be more tricky because of KAT and D-Lo. If they do pick either one of Wiseman or Ball, perhaps that could be the sign that a trade may come in the future.
