The Los Angeles Lakers had to pay a hefty prize to secure a second-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
The Lakers acquired the 46th overall pick from the Orlando Magic for a future pick and cash. According to David McMenamin of ESPN, the Purple and Gold paid $2.2 million to secure the pick from Orlando, which they used to select Talen Horton-Tucker in the draft.
The Lakers paid $2.2 million to Orlando last night for the No. 46 pick they used on Talen Horton-Tucker, league sources tell ESPN. The Lakers’ $5.6 million cash considerations budget will be reset on July 1 for 2019-20.

Earlier before the draft, the Miami Heat paid the Atlanta Hawks $1.8 million and a conditional future second-round pick in exchange for the No.44 selection in the draft.
While Los Angeles paid more for a lower pick, it was an unavoidable move as Los Angeles was determined to load up their roster after trading their young core for Anthony Davis.
Aside from Horton-Tucker, the Lakers reportedly acquired Nevada standout Jordan Caroline as well. Caroline went undrafted on Thursday. Furthermore, Los Angeles signed Gonzaga standout and undrafted guard Zach Norvell to a two-way deal.
Rob Pelinka and Co. are expected to make more moves this offseason. They will be facing the challenge of building a solid team around LeBron James and Davis, especially after sacrificing their future for a chance to win now — in the last years of LeBron James.
