Paul Pierce is apparently not a huge fan of White House visits. In a recent interview with TMZ, the former NBA Finals MVP called the White House visit an overrated tradition.

Pierce was asked on his thoughts about Villanova, who won the NCAA tournament in April, skipping on the White House visit. This is what the former Boston Celtic had to say:

“I think that's overrated. Why you gotta visit the White House? You got your trophy, you won your championship. It's a digital time that we live in. The President can congratulate them. I don't know why we go to the White House. Why did people even start going there?”

Villanova won their second NCAA men's championship in three years after defeating Michigan, 79-62 in the Finals. The Wildcats visited The White House when they last won the title in 2016. However, head coach Jay Wright announced this past Thursday that the team would not be making their trip this year.

Before, champions of past years visited the White House to be personally congratulated by the President of the United States. But now, times have changed. However, the current administration has had difficulty getting championship teams to visit 1600 Pennsylvania. Teams such as the Golden State Warriors and the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles did not make their rounds after several players from both squads expressed that they did not want to go.

Pierce, himself, made the visit to The White House in 2008 when the Boston Celtics won their 17th title in franchise history. The Celtics won the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. They blew out their rivals in the close out contest where they won in convincing fashion, 131-92. Pierce was named Finals MVP of that series.

Apparently, the man known as The Truth once called their visit “an honor.” Oh the difference 10 years makes.
