The CAA is getting closer to signing Duke phenom Zion Williamson, according to Sean Deveney of The Sporting News. Deveney adds that while nothing is done yet, “signs are pointing” to an agreement being reached.
Williamson is the consensus No. 1 overall pick in next month's NBA Draft, and it would be beyond shocking if the New Orleans Pelicans did not take him with the top overall selection.
Considered one of the best prospects to enter the draft since LeBron James back in 2003, Williamson is coming off of a spectacular freshman campaign at Duke in which he averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks over 30 minutes per game while shooting 68 percent from the floor, 33.8 percent from three-point range and 64 percent from the free-throw line.
While Williamson is an athletic freak who has been compared by some to Charles Barkley, there are some that are concerned about how his game will translate into the modern NBA, as Williamson lacks a consistent jumper, and at 285 pounds, some fear that his weight will eventually give him issues as he gets older.
Still, there is no denying the fact that Williamson is a special talent with a blend of size, speed and athleticism that you rarely see.
As a result, some even feel that Williamson is the most valuable piece in the NBA right now even though he has never even played a second of pro ball.
The NBA Draft will take place on June 20, so, chances are, Williamson will come to terms with an agency sooner rather than later.
