Most 2022 NBA Draft mock drafts have their top three picks revolving around Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren, and Paolo Banchero. On both paper and eye tests, it seems that each has a strong case to get selected first overall, which is the dilemma the Orlando Magic have, as they own that pick.

However, it is widely believed that the Magic have already made up their mind, and any action Orlando would take in assessing the top candidates would only be for optics' sake.

Via Jonathan GivonyMike Schmitz of ESPN:

While Magic executives have made it clear they will conduct a thorough process — even extending beyond the widely believed top three prospects in Smith, Holmgren and Paolo Banchero — most NBA teams firmly believe that's a formality and that Smith is all but assured to become the top pick.

It's easy to see why NBA scouts have been salivating for Smith. At 6-10, 220, he's got the body to keep up with the pros right away. But it's when one tries to factor in Smith's feathery touch from behind the arc, athleticism at his size, and nose for the ball that blows people away of this player's potential in the NBA.

If the Magic are indeed completely sold on Smith, then Holmgren is very much likely to fall in the laps of the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 2 overall.

Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed in the NBA Draft, but for now, this is perhaps the projection that is closest to the reality for Smith and Holmgren.
