As part of a wide-ranging podcast interview with former NBA forward and Northeast Ohio native James Posey, Hall of Famer Ray Allen laid out the paths that Devin Booker and Bradley Beal need to take to win a championship.
Booker and the Suns finished the 2019-20 season with a 34-39 overall record, which left the team with the 10th seed in the Western Conference standings and (eventually) out of the playoffs.
Booker and the Suns were the only team to go unbeaten once the season restarted in the bubble, racking up eight straight wins. Unfortunately, though, Phoenix missed out on the postseason because they lost a tiebreaker to the Memphis Grizzlies by virtue of losing the season series, 3-1.
Ray Allen says he was impressed with Booker's play inside the NBA's bubble complex, but he feels the young star could use a bit more help around him on the roster:
“I love what Devin Booker did in the bubble, but I always knew that he was that type of player,” Allen said. “I know a lot has been said about wherever team he might end up on but Phoenix has a great fanbase and an opportunity to win as long as they continue to surround him with pieces.”
As his interview with Posey went on, Allen touched on his affinity for Washington Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal, noting that the former No. 3 overall pick is “of his likeness.”

Beal and the Wizards finished this season with a 25-47 overall record, which left the team with the 9th overall seed and out of the postseason hunt. Unfortunately, Bradley dealt with a rotator cuff ailment for much of the campaign.
The Real Deal made 57 appearances this season, racking up averages of 30.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.
“He's been around for a while but he's still so young and hasn't really reached his prime yet. He'll be out of Washington helping some other team win a championship within the next 10 years.”
High praise for Beal from one of the NBA's greatest shooters of all time. We'll have to wait and see if his prediction comes to fruition.
