The NBA season is less than two months away, but former All-Star and NBA scoring champion Carmelo Anthony is still without a team.

Although he already appeared in First Take to say that he's willing to accept any role that will be given to him by any team, he still hasn't been signed, and as the days go by, it becomes more likely he won't be part of any roster come opening night. A lot of concerned individuals are giving Melo advice, one of which is former NBA player Kendrick Perkins who believes that Anthony should be in the NBA.

According to Perkins, however, Melo should follow the footsteps of Atlanta Hawks swingman Vince Carter if he ends up being signed by a team.

Carter was once highly regarded as one of the best players in the league during his prime. He was in the same level as future Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, and Paul Pierce, and he made a name for himself as arguably the best dunker in NBA history.

And Perkins is right. Vinsanity was able to adjust himself to the environment that he was in. He was a star with the Toronto Raptors and then-New Jersey Nets during his prime, then he became a role player for the Dallas Mavericks. Then, he decided to become a locker room leader and mentor to teams like the Sacramento Kings and the Hawks.

Obviously, Melo is no longer the player he once was, but he can help an NBA team to some capacity. If people will believe that he's 100 percent willing to accept a much, much lesser role, he might just find himself back in the league.

So far, Melo has been seen working out with some of the NBA's younger players, so that's a good start.
