The Hall of Famer center recently admitted on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” that he's never actually voted until this election:
“I'm honest, I've never voted in my life. This is my first time voting,” stated O'Neal. “I've never voted before, America. …But, now I'm doing all these voting campaigns and ya know one thing I never like to do, is be a hypocrite.”
The news definitely comes as a shock to mostly everyone that has admired Shaquille O'Neal from afar. Throughout his playing days and into his commentary career, the Diesel has always been outspoken on social issues and the importance of voting to change the landscape of America.
What made matters more awkward as brought up by Shaq was his recent virtual appearance next to former President Barack Obama during the NBA Finals.
This also does come as good news. For citizens that've never voted as O'Neal hasn't, hearing his words may put them in a more dutiful state to get up and vote as well, thus increasing the voter turnout this election.
