The NBA sports world may have woken up to a frenzy of news that had nothing to do with actual basketball. Instead, the news consisted of several arrests, three of which were Terry Rozier, Chauncey Billups, and Damon Jones for being in an alleged illegal gambling operation.

The FBI held a press conference mentioning the arrests and all the research that had been made prior to the actions.

“Individuals such as Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones and Terry Rozier were taking into custody today, former, current NBA players and coaches…this is an illegal gambling operation and sports rigging operation that spanned the course of years,” FBI director Kash Patel said.

According to the FBI, Rozier's allegations are connected to the illegal sports gambling ring, Billups' was connected to illegal poker games, and Jones' was connected to both.

Four teams were also mentioned in the investigation, which included the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Though this is a serious matter to the people who are involved, social media is having a field day with some jokes regarding the investigation.

“Someone could wake up today and say ‘The NBA is in serious trouble' and you wouldn’t know if they were talking about Wembanyama’s 40 piece or the FBI arresting players and coaches for gambling violations,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“I’d never accuse anybody for fixing games or anything but if Chauncey got arrested I got a few nurkic plays I’d like to bring to the attention of the FBI,” another user wrote.

“D— them alphabet boys waiting until the NBA’s opening week to make these arrests is cold blooded,” a third user wrote.

It will be interesting to see what this investigation will look like moving forward, and if any more people will be arrested as it continues.
