The United States women's soccer team defeated the Netherlands, 2-0, to win the FIFA Women's World Cup on Sunday in Lyon, France, and NBA athletes were watching and celebrating along.

Team co-captain Megan Rapinoe scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute to put the US team up 1-0. Young newcomer Rose Lavelle followed that up with a devastating strike in the 69th minute to pull the American side well past the Dutch's reach.

The final match was watched across the states and featured NBA stars rooting on the women as the US team captured its fourth World Cup title — including back-to-back wins following 2015's World Cup.

Injured Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, sidelined while rehabilitating from Achilles surgery, congratulated the women for their impressive feat:

The USWNT's back-to-back World Cup victories also comes in wake up the men's team missing the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. A huge storyline throughout the women's World Cup was the massive discrepancy in pay between the women's and men's teams, despite the women's continued success. Skeptics complained that the women's team produces far less revenue than the men, but this is incorrect. Per Forbes, the USWNT has out-earned the men's national team by $1.87 million since 2016.

Regardless, the male athletes in the NBA seem to cheer on the victorious American women.
