Damian Lillard might need to watch himself, because someone might be coming for his crown as the NBA's resident rapper. In a recent interview with GQ, Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards opened up about the team's new owner, Alex Rodriguez, his favorite players in the league, his rookie season so far, and of course, his relationship with Atlanta rapper Lil Baby.
The two apparently hail from the same neighborhood, and Edwards clearly is at least inspired by the artist. Check this quote from an interview with ESPN's Alex Scarborough (you can watch the full interview here):
Anthony Edwards thinks he’s “rapping like Lil Baby”;
"But I really can rap…Dame, talking about — I don't know what he's talking about. I'm rapping like Lil Baby."

Sheesh. Say whatever you want about Anthony Edwards, but you can't fault his self-confidence or swagger. This is the same rookie who planted his flag as the self-proclaimed best player in his class, and he's starting to live up to the moniker. He's bold for sure, but who's to say that he might not also become the best rapper in the league? We might just get to see Anthony Edwards' chops sooner rather than later, according to the interview:
“This is all taking away from me asking you when your mixtape is gonna drop.
I ain’t gone say a mixtape. I might drop two or three songs. A lil’ EP! And probably in like the beginning of next season.
Are we getting a Lil’ Baby feature?
Fasho! My boy gon’ get on there.
I’m expecting that now. Do you have a rap name?
Nawl. They just know me when I get on the track.”
If nothing else, we know that Anthony Edwards is a true renaissance man in the NBA. Just don't ask him anything about baseball. He knows nothing about the sport. The Timberwolves rookie only knows how to ball.
